The pilot of a helicopter that crashed into the Shuswap River this past weekend left the scene of the crash and is unaccounted for.
The aircraft crashed into a shallow section of the Shuswap River on Saturday, Aug. 12, according to a release from the RCMP. Officers responded to the 2700 block of Mabel Lake Road in Hupel at 8:23 p.m.
Investigators determined that four people were on board the helicopter when it crashed.
Three passengers were taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The fourth person, believed to be the pilot, left before police or paramedics arrived and remains unaccounted for.
The cause of the crash is under investigation by RCMP and the Transportation Safety Board.
