Pilot killed in helicopter crash near Invermere

A helicopter crashed near Invermere in the Columbia Valley last night killing the pilot and injuring the two passengers on board.

The privately-owned helicopter crashed south of Invermere near Brewer Creek at approximately 7 p.m. Tuesday, July 2, according to an RCMP media release.

“Search and Rescue crews were deployed to the area and located the helicopter, and sadly the pilot was deceased,” BC RCMP media relations officer Cpl. James Grandy said in the release.

The two passengers were taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Police are not releasing the identity of the deceased ranch owner who was piloting the helicopter. No further information has been released about the crash.

RCMP are assisting the BC Coroners Service and Transportation Safety Board as the investigation into the cause of the crash continues.
