The pilot of an ultra-light plane that crashed in Salmon Arm while taking off from the local airport this morning walked away with only minor injuries.
Around 8:30 a.m. today, April 28, the aircraft lost engine power while taking off from the airport in Salmon Arm and was forced to make an emergency landing in a field, according to an RCMP media release.
"The plane was able to land in a field near 51 Street and Highway 1," Staff Sgt. Scott West said in the release. "The pilot and sole occupant of the plane suffered minor injuries as the plane came to a sudden stop in the soft ground and damaged one fence in the area."
The pilot was treated at the scene of the crash by emergency crews and didn't need a trip to the hospital.
Transport Canada will be investigating.
