UPDATE: Pickup crashes onto Skaha Lake ice near Penticton

There is a truck in Skaha Lake just off Eastside Road this morning, Mar. 1, 2017.

PENTICTON - A pickup truck has fallen through the ice in Skaha Lake between Penticton and Okanagan Falls this morning.

Penticton RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Don Wrigglesworth says the driver of the blue Dodge Ram pickup failed to negotiate a tight right hand turn, or became confused as to the direction of the roadway, and crashed into the Skaha Lake at about 4:25 a.m. today, March 1.

The vehicle was travelling northbound on Eastside Road near Hilside Road when it went into the lake around 4:25 a.m., Mar.1.

Wrigglesworth says a lone male driver was picked up near the scene by a passerby and taken to a home on Winnipeg Street in Penticton.

The registered owner of the pickup told police he lent the truck to a friend, but he has not had any contact with the friend to confirm the current status of the truck.

The truck appears to have missed a curve on Eastside Road.
