Slope repair and drainage improvements are now complete at the Highway 1 Peterson Creek Bridge in Kamloops, improving the overall safety of the structure and reopening the trail network underneath the bridge to hikers.

"This work has helped increase the longevity of the structure by repairing the eroded slope beneath the bridge and ensuring the water collected can move into Peterson Creek without causing damage or compromising the life of the structure," said Minister of Transportation and Infrastructure Todd Stone. "Now that these important improvements are complete, hikers once again have full trail access to both sides - east and west - of Peterson Creek."

"As frequent users of the trails in Peterson Creek Park, my dog Pal and I are happy to see this important safety initiative complete," said MLA for Kamloops-North Thompson and Minister of Health Terry Lake.

Work involved the removal of the aging concrete apron on the west end of the Peterson Creek Bridge, engineered improvements to the drainage system, re-vegetation of the slope, as well as modifications to the deck joints at the west end of the bridge.

Extreme Excavating Ltd. of Kamloops completed this $566,000 construction contract.

As part of B.C. on the Move, the Province's 10-year transportation plan, the ministry will invest $180 million over the next three years to repair and replace provincial bridges. This investment represents a 50% increase in bridge rehab funding over previous years.
