An 85-year-old man took a fatal fall today from the trestle on the popular Kettle Valley Railway trail in Kelowna.

In a press release from the Kelowna Fire Department, platoon captain Tim Light said the call for help came in at around noon, and once fire crews and Central Okanagan Search and Rescue arrived they found the man had fallen 40-feet from the trestle.

The person was at the bottom of the ravine and being helped by a doctor and B.C. Ambulance personnel. Light said a rescuer was lowered to the patient to assist the medical personnel on scene.

"The patient was declared deceased at the scene by the doctor," Light said in the release. "At this time KFD crews are bringing the victim up to be transported to KGH."

No information on the identity of the person or what caused the fall has been made available at this time.

“At this time, criminality is not suspected in the man's death,”  Cost. Solana Paré, a spokesperson for the Kelowna Regional RCMP Detachment, said in a press release. “Our thoughts and prayers go out to those who witnessed this tragic event, as well as the mans' friends and family during this difficult time.”

Due to the privacy of the deceased, as per the Coroners Act, no further information will be released by the RCMP or the BC Coroners Service.
