KAMLOOPS – The Kamloops branch of the B.C. SPCA is busy getting ready for the Paws for a Cause walk set to take place this Sunday.

The annual walk is a key fundraiser for the shelter and the hope is to raise at least $20,000 this year. Branch manager Charleen Holloway says so far they are ahead of target with online registration. The hope is to have at least 80 human walkers this year, up from the 60 that took part last year.

Registration begins at 9 a.m. and the walk starts at 10:30 a.m. at Pioneer Park. Games for humans and canines, a pet photo booth, agility and fly ball demonstrations and a pancake breakfast (at 8:30 a.m.) are among the other activities to keep people and their pooches busy.

The doggie games will include best dressed, musical dogs (small and large) and best trick. Ms Kamloops and Princesses and Ms Logan Lake and Princesses will be the guest judges for the games.

The last day to register online for the walk is Thursday, Sept. 5 though anyone is welcome to register up to, and including the day of the walk.

Kamloops is one of nearly three dozen communities participating in the province-wide fundraiser which hopes to raise $1 million. All funds raised at each individual event stay within that community.
