A 17-year-old Penticton powerlifter has won gold at the Worlds Gold Coast championship in Australia.
Bronte Lauze is currently recuperating and celebrating the win with a snorkelling holiday off the coast of Brisbane.
“I managed to win my age and weight class, it was such a great day,” she wrote to iNFOnews.
The teen exchanged her ballet shoes for barbells just one year ago after battling an eating disorder and has never looked back.

Lauze qualified for worlds at the B.C. Provincial Championship in June, then won the Canadian nationals for her age and weight class in August.
She worked hard doing a “heavy training schedule” leading up to the international competition, then took a 16 hour flight to the Gold Coast where she competed the evening of Friday, Nov. 4.
In an interview with iNFOnews prior to the competition, Lauze said she was more excited than nervous and after scouting out her competition, felt she had a solid chance of winning.
Lauze confirmed she is returning home to Penticton on Wednesday, Nov. 9.
