Penticton Search and Rescue crews rescued an injured mountain biker in the Three Blind Mice Trails late this morning.

The Penticton Fire Department initially attended to the injured person and prepared them to be evacuated while Penticton SAR mobilized their helicopter team. The biker was safely airlifted out of the area and transferred to an nearby ambulance, said SAR public affairs officer Randy Brown.

This was the second injured mountain biker that had to be evacuated this week from the Three Blind Mice area using a helicopter, he said.

Since last Sunday, PENSAR’s services have been requested five times and they have deployed resources into the field four times. Two calls were for injured mountain bikers and two were for overdue motorists in the backcountry, he said.

"As the weather warms up and COVID-19 restrictions start to ease, the amount of activity into the backcountry has started to increase," he said.

"PENSAR cannot stress enough to those who venture into the backroads, to be prepared. Plan your route and don’t exceed the expectations of your vehicle or your own personal experience and inform others where you are going."
