Penticton’s Rotary Ribfest will not take place this year.

Ribfest had been scheduled for Sept. 18 to 20 at Skaha Lake Park, but due to ongoing uncertainties stemming from the COVID-19 pandemic, Rotary Club of Penticton has made the decision to cancel the event, according to a media release.

"We have spent weeks looking at various scenarios including a drive-thru event,” event co-chair Barb Hoolaeff said in the release. “Due to the logistics of travel for our ribbers, combined with safety issues for the community and our volunteers, we feel we are making the right decision to cancel this year’s event and start planning next season.”

Penticton’s Ribfest has raised more than $220,000 since it began in 2015. The money raised went towards community programs.

“One of the main reasons for Ribfest is to raise much-needed funds for programs in our community,” Penticton Rotary president Sandra Krauer said in the release. “The need is still great. The Rotary Club of Penticton is looking at ways we can safely continue to  fundraise so we can provide support to important programs, projects and groups moving forward.”
