Penticton RCMP seize vehicle connected to shooting at 'problem property'

Police have seized the vehicle connected to a shooting at a problem property in Penticton earlier this week.

It was the second shooting in one month at a known problem property in the 400-block of Winnipeg Street on the morning of Feb. 10, according to a press release from police.

Since then RCMP managed to track down and seize the vehicle associated with the shooting.

“Specialized teams, with the support of the South East District Emergency Response Unit, were able to locate and seize the crime vehicle connected to this week’s shooting,” Cpl. Rebecca Frazier said in the release. “Officers continue to work tirelessly to pursue multiple investigative avenues in an effort to identify those responsible for this brazen act of violence.”

It’s the second shooting in less than a month, so RCMP are going to continue monitoring activity associated with the home.

The newly-formed City of Penticton Public Safety Teams Property Standards Compliance Team is going to assist with dealing with this property.

The team is a multi-agency enforcement team that is meant to improve community safety by addressing properties like this one that have a negative effect on the rest of the community.

The team was just formed in January and it has members from the RCMP, fire department, bylaw and development services.

"This brazen disregard for public safety is deeply concerning," Penticton RCMP Commander Supt. Beth McAndie said previously. "Ensuring the safety of our community remains our detachment's priority, and we're asking for the public’s assistance in this investigation. If you saw anything suspicious or have any relevant information, please report it to the police."

Investigators are urging anyone who witnessed any part of the incident, or who was driving by the area around the time and may have dash cam footage, to call Penticton RCMP at 250-492-4300.
