Penticton property crime down; violent crime on the rise

Penticton police report are reporting a drop in property crime since last year, but now violent crime has risen.

Year-to-date statistics released by Penticton RCMP show auto theft is down 21 per cent, business break-ins are down 43 per cent, and theft from vehicles is down 32 per cent.

Violent crime is up a total of 11 per cent since last year. Sex offences and threats are up 19 per cent.

Although property crime is down for the year, the numbers show rates for some crimes are up slightly during the same three month period last year, July to September.

Penticton city council is scheduled to discuss the crime statistics report from the RCMP next week, Nov. 7.
