One of Canada's most famous spoken word artists has announced his first tour since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Penticton’s Shane Koyczan has an eloquent way with words that earned him a role in the Vancouver 2010 Olympics opening ceremony, and he’s announced a 13-city tour across B.C. and Alberta.

“I feel like I’ve been hibernating through this winter of our discontent, but I can’t sleep forever and am now happily stirring from a long slumber,” Koyczan said in his Facebook post announcing the tour.

The only Okanagan date on the list is May 12 in Lake Country at the Creekside Theatre. In the Shuswap, he will perform in April 30 in Salmon Arm at the Song Sparrow Hall.

“I can’t tell you how happy I am to let you all know I’ll be dipping my toe back in the water with a little tour,” he said.

“I’m nervous, I’m scared, I’m giddy, I’m turning the key in the ignition hoping to hear the engine turn over and shake the dust out of all this idling I’ve been doing. It’s time to shake off the road rust. So if you’re up for it and are in any of these areas won’t you please come join me so we can celebrate together.”
