Penticton icon Kevin the goose passed away this weekend.

Kevin hung around on the beach in Penticton and became a fixture loved by local residents.

By all accounts Kevin was a friendly, fun loving goose who brightened people’s day.

Kevin was reportedly attacked by a dog while in his usual spot on the beach. Residents took him to a veterinarian in Kelowna where he sadly did not recover and passed away.

Penticton residents took to Facebook to mourn the loss of this beloved goose.

“Kevin was not just a bird. He represented Penticton. Resilient, bright, strong, and loving,” Jolene Kristeen wrote.

“I'm gonna miss this little creature! He was a good friend and brought me a lot of joy! I would love how he would waddle towards me while honking away. For a lot of us, he will go down as an important part of Penticton history,” a resident wrote.

Some residents are in the early stages of planning a celebration of life for Kevin.

“Our morning walk on Okanagan beach won’t be the same again without Kevin the goose,” Julie Ann Jules Botnen wrote.
