PENTICTON - A carjacking incident on East Side Road in Penticton has prompted a manhunt.
A driver was flagged down today, Sept. 19, at 3 p.m., by a man standing by a motorcycle on East Side Road. When the driver pulled over to assist, the man pointed a firearm at them.
"The driver was told to exit their vehicle, which they did. The suspect then drove north on East Side Road toward Penticton. The victim was unharmed and called 911," Penticton RCMP spokesperson Const. James Grandy said in a press release.
"Officers immediately began conducting extensive patrols in the Penticton, Okanagan Falls and Summerland areas."
The stolen vehicle is a 2017 Toyota Rav4, light grey, British Columbia licence plate JA790V and the suspect is a Caucasian man 20 to 30 years old and around 5'7" tall. He's believed to have dark-brown curly hair, black leather jacket and black jeans.
Numerous officers, with assistance from the RCMP helicopter and Police Dog Services, are continuing to conduct patrols and investigate.
Should anyone observe this vehicle, they are encouraged to call 911 immediately and not engage with the suspect.
