RCMP are investigating following a fatal weekend motorcycle crash on Highway 97 in Summerland.
Emergency crews responded to the intersection of Highway 97 and Prairie Valley Road around 4:15 p.m on Sunday, April 4 on reports of a motorcycle crash, according to an RCMP media release.
Responders found a 64-year-old Penticton man with life-threatening-injuries. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
RCMP investigators say the motorcyclist was travelling west onto Prairie Valley Road from Highway 97 but instead of following the curve of the road, drove into the opposite lane and collided with another vehicle travelling westbound at the time.
"No criminality is believed to have contributed to this unfortunate collision," RCMP spokesperson Const. James Grandy says in the release. "RCMP are working alongside the BC Coroners Service in a parallel fact-finding investigation to confirm cause of death, and if the motorcycle malfunctioned in some manner.”
Anyone who might have witnessed the incident, or who has information regarding the collision, is asked to contact Penticton RCMP at 250-492-4300, or remain anonymous by calling Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
