A Penticton resident plans to pay off his mortgage after winning a $352,000 lottery prize.

Shaw O’Brien bought the winning 6/49 ticket back on Sept. 13 and during a power outage while on vacation in Mexico he decided it was a good time to check his ticket, according to a BC Lottery Corporation media release.

That's when he found out he was $342,776.20 richer.

“I sat still for a few minutes in disbelief and then checked it three more times to make sure it was real,” O'Brien said.

He immediately shared the exciting news with his wife who was shocked and in disbelief.

The couple had a steak dinner to celebrate and are now looking forward to paying off their mortgage with their winnings.
