The City of Penticton is looking for a new City manager — its fifth since 2010.
Donny van Dyk was hired in 2019 and officially announced his resignation today, Aug. 9.
“I can’t begin to express my thanks to all the council members, city staff and residents who have made my time here in Penticton so memorable and rewarding,” he said in a news release.
van Dyk was hired after leaving a role with Enbridge, but also worked in the public sector with the District of New Hazelton before that.
“The decision to take another opportunity was a difficult one but I’m leaving knowing that our City team is dedicated to excellence every day and that Penticton is in great hands," van Dyk said.
He didn't say where he is going.
Infrastructure manager Kristen Dixon will replace van Dyk in the interim after his last day on Sept. 8.
“As a council, we want to thank Donny for all the hard work and efforts he has put in over the past five years as city manager,” Mayor Julius Bloomfield said in the news release.
van Dyk was the City's fourth chief administrative officer since 2010. He took over the role after Peter Weeber resigned in January 2019. Eric Sorensen held the position for a year when he resigned in 2016, following Annette Antoniak's tenure from 2010 to 2015.
“We’ve been fortunate to have someone of his talents lead our incredible City team. Imaginative and pragmatic, Donny has led us through some unexpected times with distinction and helped to create a more vibrant community in so many ways. His gift of pulling people together to accomplish great things and maintain high standards will leave a lasting legacy here in Penticton," Bloomfield said.
