PENTICTON - Penticton’s newest crossing of the Okanagan River Channel is no longer a bridge to nowhere with the first tenant announced today, July 25, for the Satikw Crossing developement.

Nissan Penticton will be the first tenant in the Penticton Indian Band development, according to a media release from the band.

The car dealer will be building a 16,000 square foot building on the locatee lands across the Okanagan River channel with construction expected to start within the next 60 days, Penticton Indian Band Chief Jonathan Kruger says in the release.

The announcement represents a major step forward in development of the channel lands following construction of the Satikw bridge last year.

“Signing our first commercial tenant at the Satikw Crossing proves when you build it, they will come," Kruger says in the release. "This is the culmination of a 22-year journey to resolve legal, environmental and financial hurdles to build an $8 million bridge to the future that links our economies with the broader region.”

The Nissan Penticton dealership is expected to create 30 full time jobs when it opens in mid-2017.
