Penticton fire crews extinguish wildfire near Sendero Canyon

FILE PHOTO

Penticton fire crews were busy today as another fire sparked at the bottom on Sendero Canyon.

According to a release from the City, the grass fire has been extinguished and doesn't pose a risk to the community. It is not clear how large the fire was or what caused it.

“I would like to thank our City firefighters and BC Wildfire crews for their quick response. This event is unrelated to the current fire event at Christie Mountain,” said the City of Penticton’s chief administrative officer, Donny van Dyk in a media release.

The fire at Christie Mountain is now 1,400 hectares in size and has put nearly 4,000 people on evacuation alert. An evacuation order is in effect for 319 properties in Regional District of Okanagan-Similkameen's electoral area D.
