Amelia Boultbee will represent the BC Conservatives in the riding of Penticton-Summerland in the upcoming BC Election.

The not-yet one term Penticton City Councillor announced today her name will be on the ballot in the upcoming provincial election as the BC Conservative candidate for Penticton-Summerland. Long-time BC United MLA Dan Ashton has already said he wouldn't seek re-election and he'd be representing the Conservative Party of Canada to represent the riding federally.

Boultbee said she shares the party's vision for the province and hopes to be a new option for voters in the region.

"I think they (the BC Conservatives) have a very forward-looking view of British Columbia, I really believe in John Rustad's leadership and I think people are a little bit sick of BC United and what they let the BC NDP get away with while they were in opposition all this time," she said in a release.

Boultbee, in line with the party's platform, said she hopes to address the province's affordability crisis if she is elected and says removing the carbon tax is a starting point.

"My main reasons for running are going to be to deal with the cost-of-living crisis, the housing crisis and overall, just trying to make things more affordable for British Columbians, especially here, in this riding," she says. "One of the things we're planning on doing is rolling back the carbon tax so that's a couple of billion dollars worth of money that we want to see going back into taxpayers' pockets as opposed to just going nowhere in government coffers."

As of Feb. 26, Boultbee is one of two candidates in the riding, the other being BC United's Tracy St. Claire. The BC NDP has yet to announce any candidates for the riding of Penticton-Summerland.

The conservative candidate says her experience in politics and in law sets her apart from St. Claire and making her the better candidate.

"I think I actually have more relevant experience working in government; I've been a lawyer for almost ten years, I've worked in a variety of legal capacities including at various levels of government and I believe that my experience on city council sets me apart as well."

The BC Election will take place on or before Oct. 19.
