PENTICTON - The Penticton Community Centre pool reopened today, Sept. 12, following a six week closure.
City recreation and culture manager Lori Mullen says the extended closure was necessary to reinforce hot tub drains and inspect the main pool drains to see if any further work on them was necessary following last year’s maintenance work on the main pool drains.
Mullen says the hot tub drains were completed, and no further work will be necessary on the main pool drains until next year’s shut down. The 2017 summer shut down is not expected to be extended past the normal three week period.
Staff also conducted regular mechanical maintenance and cleaning projects during the shut down, including complete re-grouting of the main pool tiles.
Hours of operation for the community centre and fitness room are Monday to Friday from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m., Saturday and Sunday from 8:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m.
Pool opening hours are from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. from Monday to Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 8:30 p.m.
Mullin says Upper Bench Fruit Farms is helping the city celebrate the re-opening by providing them with 400 pounds of apples to give away.
