The concerns of business owners will be the focus of a virtual all-candidates forum being hosted by the Penticton and Wine Country Chamber of Commerce next week.

“Our role as a Chamber of Commerce is to ensure that the concerns of the businesses are front and foremost,” reads a press release from the chamber. “As a service to our members, we have invited all registered candidates in the South Okanagan-West Kootenay riding, to participate in a virtual all candidates forum.”

The local chamber is taking part in a broader campaign – the Canadian Chamber's What it takes to Grow - Priorities for the next parliament.

The forum will pose questions about affordable housing, inter-provincial trade, infrastructure investments, global competitiveness, and how they will respond to labour market demands.

Candidates will face questions that have been prepared in advance, and the order they answer in will be random. Members of the public are invited to submit questions to admin@penticton.org, as long as they are sent in advance and are not directed at any specific candidate.

The online event takes place on Sept. 10 through Facebook and Zoom. Those wishing to participate through Zoom will have to register here to get the link and access code. It goes from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Jonathan McGraw will be the moderator

All five candidates running in the South Okanagan-West Kootenay riding have confirmed their attendance including incumbent Richard Cannings of the NDP, Tara Howse of the Greens, Conservative Helena Konanz, Liberal Ken Robertson and Sean Taylor with the People’s Party.
