Penticton car thief nabbed by police

A 35-year-old Penticton man is facing a number of charges, including assaulting a police officer, following his violent arrest in the city last week.

RCMP say officers spotted a man get into a stolen vehicle near Lakeside Road in Penticton at around 3:30 p.m. on Jan. 2. The vehicle had been stolen in Osoyoos.

The man drove the stolen vehicle for a short distance before the officers “identified themselves,” according to an RCMP media release.

The driver jumped out of the vehicle and ran from the pursuing officers through a neighbourhood in the Lakeside Road area. When they caught up with him, he punched and kicked at the officers who took him into custody.

Daniel Quinn, 35, has been charged with possessing stolen property, possessing a controlled substance, failing to comply with his probation order, prohibited driving, assaulting and obstructing a peace officer, RCMP say.
