Peachland woman finds severed bear paw in driveway

Tracie Gordon was away from her Peachland home for a few days, only to make a gruesome discovery when she returned home.

She originally thought it was a cat, or a rat before finally moving the black object around with a rake Sept. 28.

Covered with flies, she discovered it was a severed bear paw.

Gordon thought it was fake at first or a practical joke until she noticed the tendons on the paw.

“I thought maybe it was a bear paw from Halloween or a plastic thing," she said. “It just seems really odd that a bear paw is sitting on my landscaping tile on my driveway,” she said.

She isn't sure if it was left there by another predator or a bird or if people were involved in it somehow.

She reported it to the Conservation Officer Service, hoping to learn more.

The Conservation Officer Service could not be immediately reached for comment.
