PEACHLAND - Not the sole resident or their five chickens were injured in a Peachland house fire that burned throughout today.
The house, however, has been destroyed.
Tyler Hilland, Peachland Fire Department's assistant chief, said the Brent Road blaze, which is between Okanagan Lake and Highway 97 at the south end of town, was particularly stubborn and took the bulk of the day to get under control.
"Just the construction of the house and how involved it was, we couldn’t go inside. We had a lot of concerns about collapse zones," Hilland said. "We had to do a full defensive attack and then the roof came down inside and started protecting the fire from our water."
Hilland confirmed that the resident of the home got out safely. The cause has yet to be determined.
