A sure sign of summer in the Okanagan is peach season, and it is underway.
Oliver Garden and Fruit Market manager Mirty Bahniwal said today, July 13, they started picking their Red Haven early peaches this past weekend.
Bahniwal said the season is slightly later than last year, but the quality is good.
The Fairhaven variety of peach should be ready in another two weeks in the South Okanagan, she said.
At Peach Hill Farm Market, owner Kuljeet Kaler said they began picking early Red Havens four days ago.
“It’s a good crop, although some orchards were hit by cold weather earlier in the year, so quantities might be down,” Kaler said.
Oliver Garden and Fruit Market is located at 5555 Highway 97 in Oliver and the Peach Hill Farm Market is located at 9105 Okanagan Highway in Osoyoos.
