Pavers roll down Bernard Avenue

KELOWNA - Things are getting smoothed out on downtown's main street.

New asphalt now covers the segment of Bernard Avenue from Ellis to St. Paul Street. With the utility work complete, paving of the road and its new parking pads is underway. It's part of the third phase of the street's $14 million revitalization project.

Pedestrians will soon be free to roam the street while the existing sidewalks are paved. Shops will remain open and accessible with temporary corridors at each entrance.

The City is reminding the public it's business as usual for Bernard Avenue shops, restaurants and services.

Completion of Phase 3a is expected this November, but due to a labour dispute with FortisBC the remaining segment between Ellis and Pandosy Street won't complete until 2014.
