Parts of Kamloops on evacuation alert due to Tremont Creek wildfire

Parts of the City of Kamloops are now on evacuation alert and the community of Cherry Creek, located to the west of the city, is on evacuation order due to wildfire.

The City of Kamloops has issued an evacuation alert for 734 properties in the Iron Mask and Pineview Valley neighbourhoods, effective tonight at 7 p.m.

The Tremont Creek Wildfire poses a threat to the structures and residents for some properties in Kamloops. The evacuation alert is in effect for the Iron Mask and Pineview Valley neighbourhoods, south of Highway 1 from the city boundary up to but not including Costco Wholesale, according to the city's press release.

An evacuation order has also been issued by the Thompson Nicola Regional District for the community of Cherry Creek.

"A wildfire event located in the vicinity of Cherry Creek is threatening structures and the safety of residents in Electoral Area “J” Copper Desert Country," according to the district. "Because of the potential danger to life and safety, the Thompson-Nicola Regional District has issued an evacuation order for 166 properties."

The Tremont Creek wildfire is currently 63,078 hectares in size and burning to the west of Kamloops.
