OTTAWA - The Harper government will propose a new law today, one that would ensure lawmakers cut down on so-called red tape.
The legislation is aimed at removing outdated regulations that hobble small and medium-sized businesses.
Treasury Board President Tony Clement says the government is already saving businesses about $20 million annually after scrapping 19 regulations.
Other highlights of events scheduled on Parliament Hill today include:
— Members of the Ukrainian Canadian community stage a rally before marching to the Ukrainian embassy to demand sanctions against key Ukrainian officials to protest the deadly violent crackdown on protesters in Kyiv.
— Statistics Canada will release a survey on how Canadians spent their household budgets in 2012.
— The Canadian Labour Congress will make public a research study showing that big companies in Canada paid their entire share of taxes to all levels of government by the end of January in 2012.
— Alan Dowty, an expert in Israeli politics and the Arab-Israeli conflict, will speak at Carleton University about what he sees as a looming crisis between Israel and Iran.
— Members of Parliament will meet with their respective political party caucuses to discuss the issues of the day before taking part in the daily question period in the House of Commons.
