Parking ticket drop boxes being removed from downtown

City Council has approved the removal of all parking ticket drop boxes from the downtown core during the first week of May. Use of these boxes has dropped significantly in the last few years and it is no longer financially reasonable to maintain this method of payment.

Ticket payments through the ticket drop box system have fallen from over 70 per cent of daily ticket payments in the early 2000s to approximately 10 per cent. Online services have facilitated the ability to pay parking tickets from a smartphone or home computer.

Ticket payment boxes will remain in place at City Hall and across from the post office adjacent to the clock tower on 31 Street. Temporary signage will be placed where existing drop boxes are located to provide information on the removal and encourage alternative options for payment. Payment options may include the online services through the City of Vernon website, through postal services, at remaining drop boxes, or in person at City Hall or the Community Services building.
