University police use stun gun on escaped hospital patient

PITTSBURGH - University of Pittsburgh police used a stun gun to incapacitate a patient who escaped from an area hospital.

WTAE-TV reports a video shows university police using a stun gun on a woman who escaped from UPMC Presbyterian hospital Monday night. University spokesman Joe Miksch says "our officers did deploy a Taser to assist in the apprehension of a person who fled from UPMC Presbyterian."

Both the city and UPMC police say they were not involved in the stun gun event. The woman who was shocked has not been identified.

Miksch did not respond to a request for comment when asked if the use of force would be investigated.
