KELOWNA - Firefighters managed to extinguish a fully engulfed mobile home before flames spread to neighbouring units at Okanagan Villa Mobile Home Park overnight.

The Kelowna Fire Department were called to put out the fire at 3:11 a.m. Sept. 17 and when they arrived the mobile home was already fully involved, according to a press release. Though they quickly put the fire out, damage to the home was extensive and a vehicle in the carport was also burned.

A man and his cat were alone in the home when the fire started. The man woke up to the sound of the smoke alarm and both made it out safely.

A fire department investigator will examine the scene to determine the cause.

Three engines, one rescue vehicle and a command vehicle along with RCMP and BCAS responded.
