Over 200 marijuana plants and 84 grams of dried bud were seized by Kelowna RCMP last Thursday.
With a search warrant in hand the RCMP Rural Drug Unit showed up at a residence on the 3400 block of Gates Road. No one was home at the house but police found what they were looking for in the basement of the residence: a large-scale grow operation housing over 200 marijuana plants.
A team of plainclothes and uniformed officers seized the prohibited drugs but have not made any arrests so far. Charges will be made once RCMP complete the investigation.
Not only do illegal grow operations qualify as criminal offences but they pose a significant safety risk to the public. Police say the amounts of electricity used by grow-ops combined with tampering to electrical systems make them a fire hazard which could endanger neighbouring residents.
