Outbreak declared over at Kamloops care home

The COVID-19 outbreak at a Kamloops long-term care home is now over.

Interior Health has declared the COVID-19 outbreak at Brocklehurst Gemstone Care Centre over, according to a press release issued today, March 12.

The outbreak was declared on Jan. 13.

The Gemstone Centre had 32 positive cases, including 24 of their residents and eight staff, Interior Health said. Two residents died as a result.

"An outbreak is declared over when two incubation periods, or 28 days, have passed from the last onset of symptoms in a resident," Interior Health said in the release.

Gemstone is a privately operated by Trellis Seniors Services with 130 patient beds, five of which are privately funded.
