PENTICTON - As School District 53 continues to wrestle with the prospect of school closures in Osoyoos, Save Our Schools’ Brenda Dorosz says the group is holding a "poster rally" on Sunday, March 6 from 3:30 to 5 p.m. at the Holiday Inn Osoyoos for students to make posters.
"We've invited parents and community members to come to the conference room at the Holiday Inn," she says, where students will make posters that will be displayed on gym walls and carried into the meetings next week.
Dorosz says the school district’s second school closure consultation meeting takes place Tuesday, March 8 at the Sonora Centre gym in Osoyoos at 7 p.m.
She has asked the school board to change the location of the the meeting, originally scheduled at Osoyoos Elementary because she feels it will be too small for the numbers expected.
NDP education critic Rob Fleming will attend a meet and greet luncheon on Tues. March 8 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Troy’s Grill in Osoyoos. He will also be at the school closure meeting and is expected to speak.
Decision day is also looming for students and parents of School District 67, as a decision on school closures in Penticton and Summerland is expected to be announced at a special board meeting slated for March 9, at the IMC building directly behind the school district office on Jermyn Avenue. The time has yet to be announced.
Public feedback regarding the closures is being collected by the school board up until March 6.
