Osoyoos police take no chances with suspicious package

Osoyoos RCMP invetigated a suspicous package left behind a downtown bank this morning.

OSOYOOS - RCMP took a cautious approach with a suspicious package discovered in the downtown core this morning, Feb. 2.

Osoyoos RCMP media spokesperson Cpl. Jason Bayda says police responded to a call of a suspicious package left at the Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce in Osoyoos.

A medium sized duffle bag was found tied to a railing at the rear door of the bank.

The bank and two neighbouring businesses were temporarily evacuated while police investigated.

The bag was found to contain garbage, posing no threat to public safety.

Bayda says it doesn’t appear as though the bag was left to deliberately cause alarm but nonetheless situations such as these need to be treated seriously, keeping in mind the need to be aware of public safety.
