Osoyoos Lake expected to rise again this week

Much of Solana Key Court in Osoyoos is underwater Monday, May 14, 2018.

OSOYOOS - Residents of Osoyoos continued to make preparations today for a second high water event on Osoyoos Lake predicted for later this week.

The regional district Emergency Operations Centre the warm temperatures this week will continue to melt the above average snowpack with the rising water expected to peak on Friday, May 18.

Sandbagging efforts were underway today, May 14, on Solana Key Court, Harbour Key Drive and other vulnerable areas in the South Okanagan town.

Parks maintenance workers at Haynes Point Provincial Park on the west side of Osoyoos Lake were cleaning up debris from the camping overflow area that was under water. Several campsites were also flooded, with at least one still underwater.

Officials hope to open the campground this weekend, if possible.
