KAMLOOPS - A development at the east end of Valleyview continues to grow at a quick rate with a 193-unit seniors' housing development next on the agenda for the ever-growing neighbourhood of Orchards Walk.
The independent living complex, which developers are currently seeking a development permit for, will be situated on just over 15 hectares and plans include a variety of landscaping, from a water feature in a landscape island near the main entrance and garden space to a covered patio and a courtyard for residents. The plan also includes underground parking.
At the development permit stage staff supports the four-storey multi-family application as long as a housing agreement is issued to ensure residents are all 55 year or older.
If council approves the application it will move on to the next stages of permitting, where other potential issues, such as utilities servicing, will be addressed.
Other senior-focused housing units have recently been built in the city. A 101-unit complex on Mayfair Street in Brocklehurst, which included 20 affordable housing units, was completed last year.
Building permit numbers for multi-family units were strong in 2014 and 2015 is also shaping up to be a good year for this type of development.
