KAMLOOPS - For those looking to march and show their support in the second annual downtown Kamloops Pride Parade, the online registration has officially opened.

This summer's pride parade in Kamloops will take place on Sunday, Aug. 26, according to a Kamloops Pride media release.

Kirstin McLaughlin, president of Kamloops Pride, says this year's parade will be similar to the first annual event with just a few tweaks and changes.

"Any individuals who register will make up the front portion of the parade, with folks from a wide variety of Kamloops community groups and businesses following behind," McLaughlin says in the release. "What we did last year worked considerably well."

McLaughlin says bicycles, wheelchairs, scooters and other mobility aids are welcome in the parade, but motorized vehicles are not.

"We heard from some people who wanted floats, but the board chose to retain the accessible grassroots feeling of the inaugural event while honouring the origins of the very first Pride Parades which were rooted in activism."

The registration period for organizations and businesses will close at the end of July, but individuals can register up to the morning of the event. The fee for businesses to participate in the parade is $75, for community organizations, unions or political organizations it is $25.

Individuals can register free of charge.
