KAMLOOPS - If you're looking to give back over this Thanksgiving long weekend, a Kamloops outreach organization may be the place.

Cynthia Oppenheim with Kamloops's New Life Community is grateful they have plenty of volunteers for this year's Thanksgiving dinner, but says there's always a need for donations heading into the winter months.

"We can always use food," Oppenheim says. "We do have another dinner in early December so turkeys are always welcome."

Oppenheim encourages people to drop off food for their annual Thanksgiving dinner being held this Monday, Oct. 9. The meal will be served at the outreach centre around 1 p.m.

She says coffee, tea, cream and sugar are used quite a bit, especially during holiday meals. She says vegetables, potatoes and cranberry sauce are needed.

"Anything that your family loves to eat, our family loves to eat too," Oppenheim says.

As the winter approaches, she says lightly used or new blankets are one of the best items to donate. But at any time of the year, if you're not sure what to donate, cash is always the best options.

"We’re just so grateful to our community, they’ve been very, very supportive," Oppenheim says.
