One person died in an accident along Highway 5A yesterday.

The highway was closed for hours, June 25, due to an accident between Kamloops and Merritt in the Quilchena area.

B.C. Highway Patrol said they responded at 5:35 p.m. to a two-vehicle crash near Quilchena Ranch outside of Merritt.

"Upon arrival it was determined that an SUV had pulled to the side of the highway, stopped briefly, then made a U-turn and failed to see an oncoming motorcycle with two riders. The motorcycle collided with the side of the SUV and the male driver of the motorcycle died as a result," Cpl. Mike Halskov, with B.C. Highway Patrol, said via email.
