A worker at a Kelowna scrap yard found three newborn kittens late last week and called the BC SPCA for help.
Despite a search of the scrap yard, Aug. 14, the mother cat, nor any other kittens, were found.
The three kittens, that were found in different areas of the yard, were barely a day old and one still had placenta attached, Kelowna shelter manager Shannon Paille said.
“It’s heartbreaking to imagine these tiny kittens alone, without their mother or even each other for warmth and protection,” Paille said in a BC SPCA media release.
The kittens were taken to an animal hospital and two were in such poor health they needed to be euthanized.

“We found an amazing foster for the surviving kitten who is bottle feeding him every two hours and weighing him daily to make sure he is gaining weight,” Paille said.
“They have an animal safe heating pad for the little one to provide some comforting warmth so they can feel safe and secure. It is important for newborn kittens to be kept at a consistent temperature.”
She said the kitten has a "fighting spirit" and he's eating well and gaining weight.
He was named Becel because the worker who found the three kittens put them in a margarine container to transport them to the animal hospital.
