One of 12 trucks stolen from Fort McMurray business recovered in West Kelowna

An Alberta man was arrested when he parked his stolen truck outside of a problem residence in West Kelowna last month.

On Nov. 22, an RCMP officer clocked the man in the driver's seat of a dark blue Ford Raptor as a suspect in a theft from Walmart the day before, according to an RCMP media release issued today, Dec. 19.

The RCMP officer approached the driver parked in the 1500 block of Ponderosa Road and arrested him for theft. Further investigation found the truck to be one of 12 that had been stolen from a Fort McMurray business.

While searching the vehicle, police also found a loaded shotgun.

Court records show Joseph Carl Read, born 1984, was charged with theft and firearms offences as well as breaching a release order.

He remained in custody for two days before being released on bail.

"This male was also on several release orders from Alberta and clearly shows little regard for the courts or public safety," Kelowna RCMP spokesperson Const. Mike Della-Paolera said in the release.
