PARIS - France's foreign minister says that neither he nor the president nor other top officials plan to attend the Sochi Olympics.

Laurent Fabius said on Sunday that "top French authorities have no plans" to attend the games in the Russian Black Sea resort.

President Francois Hollande's office said that "nothing is planned at this stage" and referred to the comments by Fabius on Europe 1 radio and iTele.

A week ago, German President Joachim Gauck said he was not attending the Olympic Games.

Russia's human rights record, including a new anti-gay law, has led to calls in the West for a boycott of the games that are Russian President Vladimir Putin's pet project.
