Jessica Zelinka sets Canadian heptathlon record in winning Olympic trials

CALGARY - Jessica Zelinka broke her own national heptathlon record en route to winning the Canadian Olympic track and field trials Thursday.

The 30-year-old from London, Ont., scored 6599 points to better her previous Canadian-record score of 6490 she set in finishing fifth at the 2008 Beijing Olympics.

The score is the third best in the world this year.

Zelinka is also running the 100-metre hurdles at the Olympic trials.
