OLIVER - RCMP are looking to the public to help them identify a man recorded on video apparently taking an elderly woman's wallet off a store counter in a checkout line.

The manager of Buy Low Foods in Oliver reported the incident Jan. 16. In the video, the 78-year-old woman can be seen leaving her wallet on the counter then turning away for a moment at which time the man in line behind her pockets the wallet. When she turns back to pay she realizes the wallet is gone.

The man police would like to speak to was wearing a red and black bomber style jacket and a black toque. He also had a day's growth of facial hair.

Anyone who may have witnessed this event or who knows who the person of interest is can contact Oliver RCMP 250-498-3422 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
