Okanagan weekend forecast: No end in sight to summer

Environment Canada says the Okanagan is about to experience a string of blue sky days, along with mid-summer temperatures.

Okanagan residents can look forward to an extension of summer over the next week with sunshine-soaked temperatures several degrees above seasonal norms, and no rain in the forecast.

That’s in sharp contrast to a forecast by The Weather Network, which says an amplified jet stream caused by Typhoon Maysak in Korea and northeastern China is expected to create a cross-polar air flow that will bring some unseasonably chilly temperatures to the eastern prairies and Ontario by next week.

That amplified jet stream is also creating a high pressure system off the British Columbia coast which should bring the Okanagan some great late summer weather.

Environment Canada says today, Sept. 3, should be sunny with winds becoming northwest at 20 km/h gusting to 40 before becoming light this evening.

Today’s high should reach 28 Celsius in Vernon and Kelowna, 31 C in Penticton, with a low down to 14 C in all three cities under clear skies.

More sun is expected Friday to start the weekend with highs of 32 C in Vernon and Kelowna on Friday, and 33 C in Penticton. It should be clear in all three cities overnight with a low of 15 C.

The weekend looks great, with nothing but sunshine and a high of 30 C on Saturday and 29 C on Sunday, with overnight lows of 14 C and 15 C respectively.

The sunny skies continue Monday with a high of 25 C. Monday night things begin cooling off with a low of 7 C predicted under clear skies.

There’s more sun forecast for Tuesday, with a high of 25 C and a low of 9 C anticipated.

The sun continues Wednesday with the daily high back up to 27 C.

Vernon, Kelowna and Penticton’s normal high and low is 23 C and 9 C.
