OKANAGAN - The fall season is starting in the Okanagan with a return to almost summer-like weather.
Environment Canada meteorologist Matt MacDonald says a “nice, big ridge” of high pressure is building off the British Columbia coast, promising to clear moisture out of the southern half of the province for the remainder of this week.
After a drastic change from summer-like weather to conditions usually seen in the late fall throughout most of September, MacDonald says the weather in Kamloops is regulating itself now.
“We’ve been into more of a mid-October weather pattern, but starting today we’re going to see almost summer-like weather, plenty of sun and above normal daytime temperatures,” he says.
Okanagan residents can expect sunny skies for the remainder of the week, with highs in the upper teens to low 20s Celsius.
A mix of sun and cloud and a slight possibility of showers in Vernon and Kelowna along with a high of 17 C today, Sept. 24, will give way to solid sunshine for the rest of the work week and into the weekend.
The Okanagan will see highs between 19 C and 21 C, and overnight lows in the 6 C to 7 C range, which MacDonald says are typical overnight lows for this time of year.
The normal daytime high for Kelowna at this time of year is 17 C.
