Okanagan should get plenty of sun this week without the oppressive heat

The sun rises over the Christie Mountain wildfire this morning, Aug. 24. Firefighters can look forward to more seasonable temperatures this week, and possible showers this morning.

The Okanagan can expect a mostly sunny and seasonal week of temperatures after some potential showers today.

Firefighters on the Christie Mountain wildfire can expect to see temperatures drop to the mid to high 20s Celsius this week, but there’s only a slim chance of showers to go along with those lower temperatures.

Environment Canada says today, there is a 30 per cent chance of showers this morning and early afternoon before clearing later in the day.

Winds are expected to become northwest at 30 km/h gusting to 50 this afternoon, with a high of 25 C and a low of 11 C.

The rest of the week is expected to be sunny and seasonal, with a high of 28 C on Tuesday, followed by clear skies overnight and a low of 11 C.

Wednesday and Thursday should be sunny with a high of 26 Wednesday and 25 C on Thursday, and lows of 10 C both nights.

More sun is in store Friday, with a high of 27 C and a low of 12 C.

The weekend looks like it will be a mix of sun and cloud with highs of 24 C on Saturday and only 22 C on Sunday.

Vernon, Kelowna and Penticton normally see a high and low of 25 C and 11 C for the third week in August.
